BENEFITS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

  • Stability — A dental implant is actually a small titanium post that is placed directly into the jawbone to recreate the root structure of a tooth, and this can be used to support a restoration above the gum line. Because implants are anchored firmly within the jawbone, they can be trusted to stay in place no matter what a patient is eating.
  • Aesthetics — Topped with 100% white porcelain restorations and having no noticeable metal attachments, implants are able to blend seamlessly into absolutely any smile.
  • Jawbone Preservation — Implants are the only treatment that can stop and even reverse the bone loss that is common after tooth loss, which helps maintain the strength of the bite as well as the overall shape of the face.
  • Longevity — Dental implants are often able to last for 30 years or more and, in many cases, for the rest of a patient’s life.

INDICATIONS FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS

Fortunately, dental implants can be used to help patients with varying degrees of tooth loss. Our team can help you determine which of the following restorative options best suits your particular needs.

MISSING A SINGLE TOOTH

Once an implant root is in place, a porcelain dental crown can be attached to it using a small connector called an abutment. This new tooth won’t require the surrounding ones to be altered in any way like with a dental bridge, and it won’t require support from them either, better preserving a patient’s natural smile.

MISSING MULTIPLE TEETH

For patients missing three or more teeth in a row, rather than using individual implants to replace them, just two implants can support a prosthetic that literally “bridges” the gap. Implant bridges not only look more natural than regular ones, but they can be trusted to last longer as well.

MISSING ALL TEETH

With just four implants, we can secure a denture directly to the jawbone to replace an entire row of teeth. This will give it a level of stability and security a traditional removable prosthetic simply can’t match, plus it will bring back much more of a patient’s bite force, helping them enjoy a more varied diet with ease.

HOW DENTAL IMPLANTS WORK

The dental implant procedure is usually broken up into two main phases: placement and restoration. First, a patient will undergo minor surgery in order to have their implants positioned within their jawbone, and then they’ll be given a few months to heal. Afterward, they’ll return to Desert Vista Dental West to receive their permanent restorations. Depending on a patient’s specific situation, the entire process can take anywhere from about six months to a year to complete from beginning to end.

UNDERSTANDING THE COST OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

Because implants are able to help people with different degrees of tooth loss, the final cost of the procedure can vary quite a bit from person to person, depending on their specific needs. While implant restorations do tend to cost more than other traditional options, they are actually the better long-term investment, not just because of their superior function and aesthetics, but their durability as well. Regular bridges and dentures only tend to last for about seven to 10 years before they need to be completely replaced, while implants can often last for 30 or more, meaning a patient will save thousands in retreatments by comparison.
