How often should I visit the dentist?
Our team agrees with the American Dental Association® on this one: Patients of all ages should attend at least two checkups and cleanings each year to achieve and maintain a healthy set of teeth. These appointments will ensure that any issue you might have won’t have the chance to turn into a major problem!
My gums bleed every time I brush or floss. Is this normal?
If you’ve recently started flossing within the last week or so, then a little bleeding is perfectly normal, and it should stop within a few days. If it persists, then you might be cleaning your teeth with too much pressure, or you may even have early-stage gum disease. Try brushing and flossing with a lighter touch and see if this helps. If it doesn’t, give our dental office a call so we can take care of any minor infection you have right away.
I think that I might have a cavity. What should I do?
Have you noticed a dark spot on one of your teeth? Do you have a minor toothache? If so, then you should give our dental office a call. You won’t be able to do anything about a cavity on your own, and it will only get worse if you ignore it. Fortunately, fixing a cavity is nice and easy these days! We’ll likely be able to take care of it in just one quick appointment with either a tooth-colored filling or dental crown we can fabricate in house.
Do I need to replace my missing teeth?
Yes! Even a single missing tooth can lead to serious aesthetic and functional problems for your smile, and they will likely get worse over time. People with missing teeth are much more vulnerable to developing gum disease, which in itself is the leading cause of adult tooth loss in the U.S.! Thankfully, we have a multitude of treatments that can reliably replace any number of missing teeth, and they are able to secure your smile’s appearance and health for many years to come.
Do I have to get metal braces to straighten my teeth?
Not anymore! For patients who want a more cosmetically friendly orthodontic treatment, our dental office is able to offer Invisalign® treatment. This system uses crystal-clear aligner trays as opposed to brackets and wires to gently shift the teeth, and they are so discreet looking that no one should notice that you’re wearing them. You can even take them off whenever it’s time to eat or brush, helping Invisalign® aligners slip seamlessly into any lifestyle.
Will you accept my dental benefits?
Our dental office accepts a long list of dental benefits plans from many providers, and you can view a complete list here. If you don’t see your provider on the list, we may still accept your plan, so be sure to give us a call to learn how we can use your particular policy to help you save.
Are dental X-rays safe?
Yes, dental X-rays are very safe. We use digital X-rays that emit up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays. These images are essential for diagnosing hidden issues such as cavities between teeth, impacted teeth or bone loss. Our team also takes extra precautions by using lead aprons and only taking X-rays when absolutely necessary.
What should I do if I have a dental emergency?
If you experience a dental emergency such as a knocked-out tooth, severe toothache or cracked tooth, contact our dental office immediately. We offer same-day emergency appointments whenever possible and will guide you on what to do next. Acting quickly can make the difference in saving a tooth or avoiding further complications.
Why do my teeth feel sensitive?
Tooth sensitivity may result from worn enamel, gum recession, cavities or grinding your teeth. You might feel discomfort when eating or drinking hot, cold, sweet or acidic foods. If your sensitivity persists, it is best to schedule an exam so we can determine the cause and recommend the right treatment.
How can I make my smile whiter?
There are many ways to brighten your smile depending on your needs and goals. Some patients benefit from professional whitening, while others may need more comprehensive options if staining is internal. Our team can evaluate your smile and recommend safe and effective options for a natural-looking result.
Do I still need to see a dentist if I am not in pain?
Yes. Many dental issues develop without pain or visible symptoms at first. Regular checkups help our team catch small problems early — before they become costly or more difficult to treat. Prevention is always better than cure when it comes to your oral health.
What happens during a routine dental checkup?
A routine checkup includes a comprehensive exam, professional cleaning and possibly X-rays. Our hygienist will gently remove plaque and tartar, while the dentist checks your teeth and gums for signs of decay, gum disease or other concerns. These appointments help us keep your smile on the right track.
Is it normal for my jaw to pop or click?
Occasional popping or clicking in the jaw is common and not always a cause for concern. However, if it is accompanied by pain, limited jaw movement or frequent headaches, it could be a sign of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Our team can evaluate your symptoms and provide guidance on treatment options if needed.
What are the signs of gum disease?
Common signs of gum disease include red, swollen or bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, receding gumlines and loose teeth. Gum disease can develop silently, which is why regular dental visits are so important. Early treatment can stop it from progressing and protect your oral health.
How can I prevent cavities?
Preventing cavities starts with strong at-home habits—brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily and limiting sugary snacks and drinks. Routine dental checkups and professional cleanings also play a big role. Our team can provide personalized tips and preventive treatments to keep your teeth healthy.
Are same-day crowns really completed in one visit?
Yes, with modern technology, many dental crowns can be designed, created and placed in just one visit. We use advanced tools to take digital impressions and craft a custom crown right in our office. This saves you time and eliminates the need for a temporary crown or follow-up appointment.
Why does my breath smell bad even after brushing?
Persistent bad breath may be caused by lingering bacteria, dry mouth, diet or even an underlying health issue. If brushing and flossing do not resolve the issue, it is best to schedule a dental exam. Our team can help determine the cause and provide treatment or referrals if necessary.
